Mindfulness-based interventions (MBI) are based on ancient Buddhist practices, updated and adapted to the Western context. In the present review, the most commonly used techniques will be described, followed by an analysis of the mechanisms of action that mindfulness seems to activate as a psychological intervention. In the second part, applied studies will be reviewed. We will begin by analyzing clinical trials and meta-analyses related to interventions on mental problems. Antecedentes: Existen pocos estudios dedicados a evaluar el impacto de los retiros intensivos de meditación en el bienestar, la psicología positiva y la personalidad de los meditadores experimentados. Nuestro objetivo era evaluar si un retiro de Vipassana de 1 mes de duración (a) aumentaría la atención plena y el bienestar; (b) aumentaría los rasgos prosociales de la personalidad; y (c) si los cambios psicológicos estarían mediados y/o moderados por el no apego.
Método: Se utilizó un ensayo controlado, no aleatorio, pre-post-intervención. El grupo de intervención fue una muestra de conveniencia (n = 19) de meditadores experimentados que participaron en un retiro de meditación Vipassana de 1 mes. El grupo de control (n = 19) estaba formado por meditadores experimentados emparejados que no participaron en el retiro. Durante el retiro, la duración media de la práctica diaria fue de 8-9 horas, la dieta era vegetariana y el silencio era obligatorio. Se administraron el Cuestionario de Experiencias (EQ), la Escala de No Apego (NAS), la Escala de Afectos Positivos y Negativos (PANAS), la Escala de Satisfacción con la Vida (SWLS), el Inventario de Temperamento y Carácter Revisado (TCI-R-67), el Cuestionario de las Cinco Facetas de la Atención Plena (FFMQ), el Índice de Cuatro Inconmensurables (SOFI) y el Índice Compuesto MINDSENS. Se utilizaron ANCOVAs y modelos de regresión lineal para evaluar los cambios pre-post y los efectos de mediación/moderación.
